How to use the UK’s Summer Festivals to up your Salon Sales!

August! The month of some of the UK’s biggest and best-loved festivals. Spread all up and down the UK you’ve got Creamfields, V, and Leeds & Reading – festivals that are a whole mix of music genres from house to pop to indie/rock! So, a perfect time to attract clients of all different interests and to run some festival-themed campaigns to attract each of these target audiences.

So, dependent on where your salon is based, you’re going to want to research the genre of the festival that is close to you in order to market to the appropriate audience. For example, look at the average age of the visitors, what their common interests are, and so on. This way you can create a strategic campaign that is well suited to attract that particular clientele.

So, ideas for a festival campaign to increase your footfall and get those clients spending! Your biggest one is media influence and celebs. Look at the big festivals, like the likes of Coachella and Glastonbury, see what the celebs wore and how they styled their hair & makeup for those. As, especially with the younger market, it’s the icons in the media that inspire their choice of style.

Next, work out if you can offer those styles and how you can make the price attractive to your clients. We’re not saying discount everything down, as you don’t want to do that either and be renowned for being the cheaper salon. Instead, create value to their salon experience, so for example include some little add-on extra’s like ‘free festival fizz’ or complimentary snacks? Or, you may want to put offers on your associated retail products, so for example if a client is getting their manicure or gel nails fresh for the fest, you might want to offer 10% off a nail product when purchased with the treatment? Or if it’s new bangs, how about putting offers on your hairsprays to keep the style in-tact for all weathers? That way, you’re still gaining the revenue from the appointment and hopefully still breaking even on your retail sales.

Another idea, if you have a company Spotify account, is to create playlists based on the genre of your closest festival! Do some research in to similar playlists and the songs that are included within those lists on Spotify already and then create your own. Name it after your salon and in reference to the festival, and then see how many followers you get! Not only does this help to aid your festival campaign, it’s also a new idea to get people talking about your salon.

Once you’ve got your ideas together, create a launch strategy! How can you push your ideas to clients? The main, and probably obvious one by now – get on social media. Social networks are the prime area to promote services that are linked to popular events, as so many people are already on there talking about it and sharing ideas. Although, traditional marketing is also useful here, for example a promotional SMS message to let clients know about your new services (or new playlist!) is a good one. Recent studies from a report by Dynmark suggests that "98% of all SMS messages are opened", so it is still proven to be a fast and effective way to market to clients. A great way to then get your campaign noticed is to include the official and popular hashtags that are commonly used for that festival. So we know for 2017, V fest official hashtags are #VFestival and #V2017. So for example an idea might be:

Or 


‘It’s nearly time for #V2017, so we’ve created the perfect Spotify playlist to get you festival-ready! Follow it at <playlistname>’

The official social media pages for each festival usually have these hashtags in their bio, so just look out for the blue-tick next to their account name and then you know for sure that these were created by the company itself.

And then, just a little extra, are there any local festivals situated near to your salon location? Have you ever thought about maybe doing a pop-up salon? If there is a local music event near you, still implement all of the tips we have given above, but then why not go that step further and take your services to the site itself! Obviously, we understand there are a few more costs involved with doing this! You would need to be granted permission from the event organiser, carry out health and safety checks and do a risk assessment. However, if the event attracts a high volume of visitors, this could potentially be a whole range of new clients for you and a fantastic opportunity to increase brand awareness! Reception and Front Desk Organisation for Salons


Salons are not just about good service, talented staff members and plenty of bookings. However, all these things have one important aspect in common: Good Organisation!

Success often starts at the front desk and therefore it is important to keep it clear and organised, as well as have a clear strategy on how it is managed. However, you should not be too busy to class front desk management/ organisation as trivial. 
Managing your front office effectively is often not a primary business objective; but it should be. Why Online Presence is so Important for your Business!

Last week we were all astonished that it had been 10 years since the first ever iPhone was released. I mean, we can’t even remember a time without our smart phones, what did we do?! But it’s strange to think that it’s only in the last decade that these technological advances have really evolved, where we can’t imagine a time where we didn’t have these forms of transportable technology. It just goes to show how the way of the world has changed in the last 10 years. I mean, as a kid we used to read story books and join dot-to-dots in activity books, nowadays the kids are better on iPad’s than most of us adults - with the majority of our traditional games now going digital on these devices!

The atmosphere that you create will be the biggest reflection of your business’s overall image. This can be anything from the design to friendly staff and cleanliness. Salon Tracker’s Feature of the Month

For our last few features of the month, we’ve discussed all the wonderful add-on technology that we offer to really enhance your salon.

However, on looking through our product-list, we decided that for this month, let’s concentrate on the most beneficial aspect of owning a salon management system. That is, the digital client card.

For anyone who is switching from the appointment book to your first management system, the fundamental reasoning for you opting for a computerised solution is so that you can do away with the appointment book and paper client cards for good! But our digital record card offers more than that. It allows you to go completely paperless within the salon as we offer some key add-on features that mean that any form of marketing lists, signed disclaimers and skin patch testing can all be recorded on the system as well.

Our record card has 5 different tabs, the first 2 allowing you to enter primary information about the customer, so the usual; their name, contact telephone numbers, D.O.B, email, postal address and so on. By having all of this information digitally, this allows you to then use the information in clever ways, and also eliminates the chance of you losing a paper record card, speeding up that search process for finding the relevant card.

Salon Tracker then offers a brilliant inbuilt marketing system, meaning that you can actually filter clients using this information; for example by date of birth to do some relevant target marketing. You might say search for client birthdays within the next month and then email or text them with a little complimentary birthday gift or a simple celebratory message.

By having their email address and contact number, this then allows you to communicate with those clients and market to them personally, should you ever need to send them an individual message regarding their appointment. This can be done directly from the system, meaning that you’re not reaching for your personal mobile phone or searching for the clients’contact number on their paper record card among realms of other documents. Instead, it will be a simple system search and click of a button on Salon Tracker to quickly communicate with those customers.

You can then have an added PDF disclaimer stored with an e-signature on the client’s digital file. Salon Tracker links up with electronic signature pads to allow clients to sign for your terms and conditions digitally, again eliminating the need for any paper documents at all. A great space saving exercise and it improves time management massively!

For those of you who require patch testing prior to offering your services, our record card has a built-in notes file for you to add any relevant information about that client that you should need. We can then highlight alerts for any of those notes that you require, so for example if a client has an allergy, this can flash up as you load the client’s digital file. You may want to keep the notes really informative and use them for taking down clients’ tea/coffee preferences, or recent topics that you’ve discussed - i.e. their upcoming holiday/wedding, just so this doesn’t slip your mind next time. As we all know it can be hard to remember every single detail that a client has told you, especially if your database is hitting the thousands!

Owners then have the option of adding a client photo to each digital file on the third tab. An excellent security feature, especially for those in the tanning industry who need to ensure that identifications are accurate and match the client’s appearance.

Our fourth tab allows you to put clients in to a specific group-type. You create these groups yourself in the admin section of the software, based on the requirements that you need for your salon. A very generic one that is seen at many salons is ‘student discount’. Therefore if you have a client that is a student, put them in this group upon viewing their NUS card and they will then receive the appropriate discount that you have set rather than you having to do this manually, for example 10% off retail and bookable items.

And lastly, this brings us to our 5th tab, which is a skin type. Probably most relevant in the tanning industry as this is where the guidelines are extremely prominent in ensuring that all members of the public are tanning safely dependent on skin tone. However, if a client has sensitive skin and is prone to chemical reactions, you may want to highlight that their skin type is sensitive if you are a beauty/hair salon as well, just for your record.

We really feel that our digital client card really enhances a salon business, as it improves organisation, speeds up the customer registration/check in process and evidently makes the client journey much more personable.
